Mystic Identity QnA
Qn : What Is Cultural Identity?
Ans : Cultural identity is not only about one’s ethnicity, food habits, attires, language or music; it imbibes more deep rooted values of one’s state of mind and heart both. It goes beyond personal identity. Cultural identity is the distinctiveness and uniqueness of one genre or group which influences a person who belongs to that assemblage. The deep rooted sense of ethnicity makes one intensely attached to both virtues and vices of the respective Cultural background. Both culture and identity are related to one’s physical appearance, environment and gender. Just like one’s personal identity, the concept of cultural identity goes through changes and evolutions with the passing time. First, one inherits attributes solely from his or her parents. Then gradually with more acquaintances such as friend circles, peers and teachers, one is introduced with different facets of his as well as others’ cultures. By the time the person is middle aged, the religious beliefs and working fields leave the strongest impression on their sense of origin. Their culture and identity becomes one.
United States, where hundreds of cultures assemble, set the greatest example of cultural identity. Irrespective of individual’s origin, every culture resonates the universal bond of unity and brotherhood which we often disregard while boasting about individuality and cultural heritage.
